Primary

Our Primary students are curious, confident and resilient learners, who embrace a strong sense of community and togetherness.

They are constantly working to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills. Our specialist teachers develop lessons and activities that ensure each student is regularly challenged and given opportunities to amaze themselves with their learning.

The flexibility of being an international school means that we are in a fortunate position to offer the best curricula and educational ideas from around the world. Our Primary School follows the National Curriculum for England (NCE) and the Cambridge curriculum for English, Mathematics and Science.

On top of this, we pride ourselves on the wide range of learning opportunities we provide to transform our students through a diverse range of co-curricular activities and leadership programmes.

Year 1 & 2 (Key Stage 1)

Students develop their literacy skills and enjoy the challenge of developing their phonics into spelling, grammar and punctuation skills. They develop good habits in reading and writing and start to become competent in speaking and listening.

Our curriculum covers a diverse range of subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Computer Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mandarin
  • Bahasa Melayu
  • Art
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Physical Education
  • Sejarah (Malaysian History for Malaysian Citizens)
  • English as an Additional Language (for students who need extra support in English)
  • Islamic Studies (Muslim Citizens)

For ‘Growing, Together’ Week, students also get involved in a week of fun, service-based activities in the local community.

Year 3 to 6 (Key Stage 2)

We continue to build upon the knowledge and skills from Key Stage 1, and as our students grow the learning becomes more in depth. Students are now becoming much more independent and taking responsibility for their learning and development.  Mandarin classes are now conducted solely in Mandarin. There are increasing opportunities for wider school roles, such as sports teams, school council and whole school productions.

Our curriculum now builds for each subject:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Computer Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mandarin
  • Bahasa Melayu
  • Art
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Physical Education
  • Sejarah (Malaysian History for Malaysian Citizens)
  • English as an Additional Language (for students who need extra support in English)
  • Islamic Studies (Muslim Citizens)

For ‘Growing, Together’ Week, Years 3 and 4 will go away for a few days to a local area, whilst Years 5 and 6 will go further afield and take part in camping and team-building activities.

In these vital years we instil the belief that they can achieve anything.

Assessment

Our students now benefit from regular assessments every year by renowned provider GL Assessment, as well sitting for the Cambridge Checkpoint examinations in Year 6.
