Rising Star: Olivia Wood Cast as Marta in The Sound of Music International Tour

Olivia Wood, a talented Year 5 student from Straits International School Penang who has been selected through 400 applicants is ready to cast her role as Marta von Trapp in The Sound of Music International Tour.

In excitement of landing the role Olivia said: “Even with limited acting experience, I have decided to push myself trying out for the auditions and my parents were very supportive. I reminded myself that no matter the outcome, I will keep on singing, dancing, and acting as I really enjoy it. I stay positive throughout multiple rounds of auditions and was excited when I finally gotten the role.”

Music Teacher Mr Izwary relates back to his first lesson with Olivia, where she was quick to spontaneously whip up a tune together with their own song arrangement and lyrics about ‘Hope’.

Our previous Drama & Performing Arts Teacher Ms Sharmila who was part of Olivia’s stage journey said: “Olivia has been a natural in performing roleplays and improvised drama. She was very thoughtful – where she takes time to process and follow instructions given with full discipline. She has a natural talent for drama with a great character & fortitude.”

The iconic and best-loved musical is produced by Broadway International Group, presented by Base Entertainment Asia, and directed by three-time Tony Award-winner and Broadway veteran Jack O’Brien. Olivia will be performing alongside renowned Broadway cast members and other talented Malaysian child actors.
