We are delighted that you are applying for Straits International School Penang. To secure your place and begin the process, please complete the application form below. Our Admissions Team will be in touch to guide you through the next steps of the application process, and to set an assessment date for your child.

Step 1

Submit the Application Form together with the RM1,600 Application Fee and supporting documents to Admissions.

Step 2

Book a placement test or trial class with the Admissions team to assess if the application year group and pace of learning are appropriate for your child and that they have the potential to be happy and thrive in the school.

If Applying to Nursery – Year 2 (Age 3 – 6)

Schedule a free trial class from 8.30am – 2.30pm (2.00pm on Friday) according to the trial schedule. Nursery and Reception children will be one hour session only. Children attend trial class in comfortable wear and bring along their water tumbler to keep hydrated. During the trial day, complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided.

If Applying to Year 3 – Year 10 (Age 7 – 15)

Take a placement test that consists of computer-based entrance test in English and Mathematics, as well as an informal interview with the Head of Academics or Senior Leadership Team. These tests can last up to two hours and are conducted Mondays – Saturdays.

Step 3

Your child’s results will be sent on email within three working days after the assessment. The Admissions Team will give you a call to verbally inform the outcome on the following day of assessment.

There are four possible outcomes:

  1. An offer is made according to the application year group.
  2. An offer is made by placing the candidate in a lower year group / offering EAL supports / requiring shadow teacher based on the assessment results in the interests of school and the child.
  3. It is reported that the applicant is not yet ready for admission to the school and recommendations are made for action before retesting. No retest fee is required if the retest is within six months. A retest after six months will require an additional fee.
  4. It is explained that the school’s programme and curriculum are not appropriate for the applicant.
Step 4

You are required to respond to the offer letter within seven days by completing the enrolment procedure.

Step 5

To confirm a place in the school, parents are required to pay full school fees according to the Pro Forma Invoice given with the Acceptance Offer Letter. The recommended payment methods are online transfer, cheque or cash.

Parents also need to complete and return the Admissions Agreement, Insurance Form with the necessary documents and photographs to complete the enrolment procedure.

Step 6

New students can purchase the school’s uniform, textbooks and exercise books from the bookstore. A photograph of new students in uniform will be taken for creating a student ID card.

Step 7

It’s the first day of school!
New students will be welcomed by the Admissions team on the ground floor, in the reception area.
