Taster Week: Your Learning Journey

Join us for Taster Week at Straits International School! We put leaners and learning first, crafting personalised learning journeys for each and every child.

Taster Week is an exclusive event designed to give prospective families a taste of life at our school. It provides a unique opportunity for learners to experience our vibrant community, engage in fun activities, and get a glimpse into the diverse learning opportunities we offer.

With each day focusing on different age groups and themes, Taster Week promises an exciting adventure for children of various ages.

24 July: First Steps to Year 1 (10am-12pm), ages 5-6

For children transitioning from preschool to primary school, our Year 1 Orientation offers an exciting introduction to their new academic journey. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children aged 5 to 6 to become familiar with our school environment, and experience the engaging teaching methods used in our primary British curriculum. Our dedicated teachers will be there to guide them through interactive sessions and help them feel confident and excited about their educational transition.

Activities include:

  • Arts and crafts 
  • Construction 
  • Introduction to Coding 

An insight into engineering. Design is not only about drawing but about thinking and creating. Students will have the opportunity to use a range of resources to design, construct and problem-solve to bring their imagination to life. 

25 July: Star Kids Kindergarten Day (10am-12pm), ages 3-5

Our youngest learners are warmly welcomed to join us on the Star Kids Kindergarten Day. This special day is tailored to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 3 to 5. From engaging educational activities to interactive playtime, your child will discover the joy of learning through hands-on experiences specifically designed for their developmental needs.

  • Introduction to Coding

26 July: Primary Morning (9am – 1pm), ages 5-11

Primary Morning is a dynamic and immersive experience for children aged 5 to 11, spanning across various year levels. During this engaging session, your child will participate in a range of activities carefully crafted to showcase our holistic approach to education. From hands-on experiments in science to creative arts and sports, our Primary Morning is designed to ignite your child’s curiosity, nurture their talents, and inspire a love for learning.

Activities include:

  • Arts and crafts 
  • Construction 
  • Coding

Students can explore the wonders of STEM with an insight into coding, engineering and arts. Those attending will explore coding programs and apply their learning to control drones through challenges. Students will be asked to think critically and problem-solve by applying their understanding and learning to create innovative designs through construction. 

27 July: Secondary Morning (9am – 1pm), ages 11-16

As your child enters the exciting realm of secondary education, our Secondary Morning provides a glimpse into the dynamic and challenging opportunities that await them in the world of STEM learning. Designed for students aged 11 to 16, this session exposes them to the fascinating realms of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and unlock skills towards innovation and collaborative learning experiences. From exploring innovative technologies to engaging in stimulating discussions through hands-on experience, your child will engage in problem-solving challenging and collaborate with other passionate learners.

28 July: Step up to Secondary (9am – 1pm), ages 11-12

For students transitioning into Year 7, our Year 7 Orientation is a pivotal event that sets the stage for their secondary school journey. This immersive session offers a comprehensive introduction to our specialized Year 7 curriculum, unique programs, and supportive community. Your child will have the opportunity to meet their future classmates, interact with experienced teachers, and gain an understanding of the exciting learning opportunities and pathways that lie ahead.
